Scholarships

The Margaret Sloss Women's Center administers four scholarships for adult or non-traditional students. 

Applications for 2017-2018 scholarships will be made available December 22, 2017. DEADLINE for all scholarships is February 17, 2017 by 11:59 P.M. 

Margaret Sloss Women's Center Adult Student Scholarship Fund

The Adult Student Scholarship Fund provides adult students at Iowa State with scholarships designed to cover the cost of books and supplies for one semester. Students will not be awarded two consecutive semesters. The scholarship will be awarded through the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Requirements:

  • 24 years of age or older by the deadline of the application period
  • Did not enter Iowa State University directly from high school
  • Is responsible for dependents other than a spouse
  • Part-time, graduate and international students who meet the criteria are eligible
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Submit complete application packet - see checklist in application form

Division of Student Affairs Adult Student Scholarship

The Division of Student Affairs Adult Student Scholarship awards $1,000 for undergraduate adult students. It is renewable for up to 4 years.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate student status -- full or part-time
  • Must be 25 years or older
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • First preference shall will be given to single Mothers
  • Second preference shall be given to applicants who demonstrate high financial need, as determined by the awarding authority
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Submit complete application packet - see checklist in application form

The Lee Hadley Scholarship

Created to honor Lee Hadley, a positive force in the lives of students and in the English Department at Iowa State University for 26 years! This $1,000-$1,500 scholarship can be renewed upon selection committee approval for four years as the student maintains full-time enrollment and satisfactory progress towards earning their degree. The Lee Hadley Scholarship was also created to motivate and reward adult students striving to reach their dreams!

Requirements:

  • Iowa resident
  • Financial Need, as determined by the funding authority
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Single Parent
  • Non-traditional student (23 years and older)
  • Submit complete application packet - see checklist in application form

Preference will be given to applicants in the following order:

  • Any major with a creative writing component and/or are
  • Minority student, as defined by the University policy and/or are
  • First-generation college student, as determined by the administering authority

The Rosenthal Scholarship

The Rosenthal Scholarship was created to motivate and reward women striving to reach their dreams! Scholarship recipients are awarded $1,000.

Requirements:

  • Female
  • Iowa resident
  • Single Parent
  • Financial Need, as determined by the funding authority
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Full-time undergraduate student
  • Non-traditional student (23 years and older)
  • Submit complete application packet - see checklist in application form

Preference will be given to applicants in the following order:

  • A first generation college student

Student of an ethnic minority


Awards

Each year, the Margaret Sloss Women's Center and Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Student Services present individuals with awards and scholarships during the Gender & Sexuality Equity Awards Reception.  NOMINATIONS and SUBMISSIONS.   

Applications for 2017 awards will be made available December 22, 2017. DEADLINE for all awards is February 17, 2017 by 11:59 P.M. 

Margaret Sloss Gender Equity Award This award is bestowed upon individuals to acknowledge their commitment to helping gain gender equity at Iowa State University.

Student of the Year Award
The Student of the Year award recognizes a student that has made significant contributions to the Iowa State community, especially in regards to gender and/or sexual equity and advocacy.

Gender & Sexuality Research Award

The Gender and Sexuality Research Award is bestowed upon an Iowa State faculty, staff, or graduate student (individual or research group) that has made important and/or innovative contributions in research expanding understandings of gender and sexuality and issues of equity and social justice related to gender and sexuality.
